While in the hospital, Dr. Tanous legally organizes and records the terms of the foundation, with the assistance of his brother, attorney Wakine Tanous, Sr. In March, the first meeting of the Incorporators of the Alex Tanous Foundation for Scientific Research is held. Dr. Tanous, as  President of the foundation, names the first Board of Directors. On July 7, Dr. Alex Tanous passes away in Portland, Maine.
